What Ottawa River is like
The Ottawa River is 1,271 km long and marks the provincial boundary along the whole edge of Renfrew County. Hydro dams at Chats Falls, Chenaux and Des Joachims hold back wide, calm reaches such as Chats Lake and Holden Lake. Between them, near Beachburg and Foresters Falls, the river breaks into the rapids used by rafting companies. Waterfront is mostly year-round homes close to the river towns, with cottages on quieter bays. The Quebec shore opposite is largely forest.
