Fewer than 300 people live in Head, Clara and Maria. Its hamlets sit along Highway 17 beside the Ottawa River, which here is Holden Lake, the long reservoir behind the Des Joachims dam. Algonquin Park forms the southern border, with access by the Brent Road from Deux-Rivieres. Driftwood Provincial Park is near Stonecliffe. Much of the land is Crown wilderness. Cottages and camps are simple and far from stores, with Deep River and Mattawa the nearest towns.
