Muskoka Lakes is the heart of the big three. Most of Lake Muskoka lies inside the township, along with the south end of Lake Rosseau and part of Lake Joseph. Port Carling holds the municipal offices and the locks that join the lakes. Bala sits where the Moon River leaves Lake Muskoka. Waterfront ranges from older family cottages to large estates with two storey boathouses. Smaller lakes such as Three Mile, Leonard and Skeleton give a quieter choice.
