Gordon/Barrie Island was formed in 2009 when the townships of Gordon and Barrie Island joined. It surrounds the town of Gore Bay on the North Channel side of western Manitoulin. Barrie Island is farmland and shoreline, reached by a causeway on Highway 540A. The municipality also has small inland lakes, including Ice Lake and Tobacco Lake, with cottages and rural homes. Gore Bay is the nearest place for groceries, fuel and a marina.
