Greater Madawaska was created in 2001 and covers more than 1,000 square kilometres with fewer than 3,000 residents. Calabogie Lake, Norcan Lake, Black Donald Lake and Centennial Lake all lie on the Madawaska River here. Calabogie is the main village and has the ski hill at Calabogie Peaks, a motorsports track and the K&P rail trail. Griffith and Matawatchan serve the upper lakes. Properties range from resort-area homes and condominiums to remote cottages on the reservoirs.
