About the lake

What Mississippi River is like

This is not the American river of the same name. The Ontario Mississippi rises in Addington Highlands and drops about 200 m on its way to the Ottawa River near Fitzroy Harbour. In Lanark County it passes the village of Lanark, Carleton Place, Appleton, Almonte and Pakenham. Above Carleton Place it runs through Shield rock, and below it crosses limestone and clay plains. River frontage is common near Almonte. Dams and rapids break the river into separate boating stretches.

  • Almonte falls
  • Pakenham stone bridge
  • River frontage

Mississippi River is in Lanark Highlands & Perth. Before you buy on any lake, read Waterfront 101.
