Cottages and waterfront in South River
South River is a village of about 1,100 people, surrounded by Machar Township. It separated from Machar in 1907. The village is the supply point for cottagers on nearby Eagle Lake, where Mikisew Provincial Park has sandy beaches. A road east leads to Kawawaymog, or Round Lake, a canoe access point for Algonquin Park. Highway 11 now bypasses the village to the west.
