Carling Township sits on Georgian Bay northwest of the town of Parry Sound. It offers more road access bay frontage than its island neighbours, along with island cottages reached from Snug Harbour and Dillon. Killbear Provincial Park takes up a peninsula in the township, with sand beaches and rock ridges. The outer shore near Franklin Island is popular with paddlers. Most owners shop in Parry Sound, a short drive south.
