Kearney is reached by Highway 518, east of Highway 11 at Emsdale. It is a gateway to three Algonquin Park access points at Tim Lake, Magnetawan Lake and Rain Lake. The town has several lakes inside its limits, including Sand, Clam, Beaver, Fisher, Grass, Island and Loon. Sand Lake, on the Magnetawan River, is the largest draw for cottage buyers. Kearney has basic services. Huntsville, about 43 km south, has the rest.
