Cottages and waterfront in South Algonquin
South Algonquin was incorporated in 1998 and has about 1,000 residents. It is part of Nipissing District but lies south of Algonquin Park, with closer ties to Renfrew County. Whitney, the main community, is on Highway 60 beside Galeairy Lake, a short drive from the east gate of the park. Madawaska is farther east, near Bark Lake. Aylen Lake and McKenzie Lake are other cottage lakes. Barry's Bay and Bancroft are the nearest towns for a hospital and larger stores.
