What Mattawa River is like
The Mattawa River begins at Trout Lake and runs east through Turtle Lake, Lake Talon and Pimisi Bay to the Ottawa River at Mattawa. For about 200 years it was part of the main canoe route between Montreal and the upper Great Lakes. It was named a Canadian Heritage River in 1988. Mattawa River Provincial Park lines both banks for most of its length, so private frontage is limited. Most cottages are near the two ends or on Lake Talon.
