What Lower Rideau Lake is like
Lower Rideau begins at the bridge in Rideau Ferry, where a channel joins it to Big Rideau Lake. From there the canal route follows the lake northeast to Poonamalie lock, just above Smiths Falls. The Tay Canal to Perth leaves from Beveridge Bay on the north side. The lake is shallower and marshier than Big Rideau, with good bass and pike water. Cottages and year-round homes sit on both shores, and Perth and Smiths Falls are each a short drive.
