What Lake Erie is like
Lake Erie is the fourth largest Great Lake by surface area and the smallest by volume. Because it is shallow, it warms quickly in summer and can turn rough quickly in wind. The Ontario shore mixes sand beaches, long sand spits such as Long Point and Point Pelee, and stretches of clay bluff. Cottages cluster around the port towns. Fishing for walleye and yellow perch is a mainstay, and most boaters work out of harbours and marinas.
