What Lake Ontario is like
Lake Ontario is the smallest of the Great Lakes by surface area, but from a cottage deck it looks like an ocean. Along this stretch the shore is a mix of sand beaches, low bluffs and flat limestone ledges. Water stays cool into early summer, and waves and ice can be hard on docks and shorelines. Prince Edward County has the most cottage shoreline, with more around Brighton, Cobourg, Bath and Wolfe Island.
