Port Hope is the first Northumberland town you reach from Toronto. The Ganaraska River runs through the old downtown to the lake. The municipality also covers the rural area to the north and west, including Welcome, Garden Hill and Campbellcroft. Lake Ontario frontage is mostly bluff and farm shoreline outside the town. Bewdley, at the west end of Rice Lake, is a short drive north.
