What Lake Superior is like
Lake Superior is the highest and deepest of the Great Lakes, and it drains east through the St. Marys River at Sault Ste. Marie. The water is cold and clear, and the weather can change fast. In this region the cottage shore runs north from the Sault along Highway 17, around bays such as Goulais Bay and Batchawana Bay. Properties there are mostly road-access camps and homes on sand or rock shoreline, with the Sault as the service centre.
