Cottages and waterfront in Montague
Montague has no large lakes. Its waterfront is the Rideau River, which forms the southern edge of the township and carries the Rideau Canal navigation channel. Properties here are mostly year-round homes and a few older cottages on slow, marshy stretches of river that suit pontoon boats, canoes and fishing. Kilmarnock has a single canal lock. The land is flat and partly wetland, so check floodplain mapping with the conservation authority. Smiths Falls and Merrickville are both a short drive.
