What Holland River is like
The Holland River rises on the Oak Ridges Moraine and flows north to Cook's Bay. Its watershed takes in Newmarket, Aurora and East Gwillimbury, along with the Holland Marsh, a well known vegetable growing area. It is named for Samuel Holland, the first Surveyor General of British North America. The lower East Holland River around Holland Landing and River Drive Park has riverfront homes with docks, and small boats can follow it out to Lake Simcoe.
