What Ausable River is like
The Ausable rises near Staffa in Perth County and twists through farm country before reaching Lake Huron at Port Franks. Grand Bend takes its name from a sharp bend the river once made there. In 1875 a drainage project known locally as The Cut changed its course, and parts of the Old Ausable Channel can still be seen in Pinery Provincial Park. Around Port Franks the river is lined with cottages, homes and marinas.
