Scugog Township was formed in 1974 from Scugog, Reach and Cartwright townships and the town of Port Perry. Port Perry is the main centre, with a historic downtown that runs down to a waterfront park. Scugog Island, in the middle of the lake, is ringed with shoreline communities such as Carnegie Beach, Honey Beach and Sunrise Beach. Caesarea and Williams Point are on the east shore and Seagrave is at the north end.
